China Consumers Association notified 100 app personal information collection and privacy policy evaluation

According to China Voice's "News Night" report, the compliance of personal information protection and application privacy provisions is an important topic of concern to major ministries and commissions in the past year, and is also the focus of Internet companies' rectification. However, today, the 100 consumer application information collection and privacy policy assessments reported by the China Consumers Association are not optimistic. Excessive collection of users' personal information and unclear privacy terms have become typical problems.
With the total number of mobile phone users of China's three major operators reaching 1.403 billion at the end of last year, mobile phones have become a standard tool in national daily life, and various types of apps such as social and financial management have also been born. However, while various types of apps bring convenience to users, the use rights and privacy issues behind them have gradually attracted consumers' attention because of the recent outbreak of Internet security incidents.
Pi Xiaolin, director of the Department of Negotiation and Service Supervision, said that the numerous security incidents have given consumers a lot of alarm, and most consumers have raised their awareness of personal information and privacy protection, but because of the work itself. The technology is too strong, and many consumers still have little knowledge of the information and usage they are authorized.
Pei Xiaolin said: "There are a lot of apps downloaded from consumers' mobile phones, but what information it collects, privacy policy includes how promises are in information protection, and consumers may not be very clear, some (consumers) ) I will take a conscious look at the download and use process, but I can't understand it because it is too technical."
In the evaluation of 100 apps, the China Consumers Association found that many apps are still on the edge of the rules. Among them, the applications that are frequently used by people are named: "ofo small yellow car", "every day P map", "e generation drive" and so on.
According to Qu Chang of the Commodity Service Supervision Department of the China Consumers Association, comprehensively, among the 10 types of 100 apps that are evaluated, as many as 91 apps listed are suspected of “crossing the border”. The evaluation results show that among the 100 apps, 59 apps are suspected of over-collecting “location information”, and excessive collection or use of personal information is more common. In addition, "address book information", "identity information" and "mobile phone number" are also contents in which the user's personal information is excessively collected or used.
In response to the problems discovered this time, Pi Xiaolin suggested that efforts should be made from legislation and platform review to seriously investigate and punish violations of the legitimate rights and interests of consumers. It is necessary to strengthen privacy protection legislation; urge App developers and managers to clearly disclose the scope of personal information collection based on the core functions and extended functions of the App. Reporter Feng Shuo
